FAST CAT CITY · DEV LOG
From grey blocks
to a living city
Fast Cat City is an open-world city for cats who drive too fast. You steal the sports car, outrun the helicopter, crack the vault and spend it all on underglow. This is the story of the first four builds, the studio pass that followed, and where it goes next.
Four builds, four days
Every build is still playable, so we went back and stood on the same street in each one.

BUILD 1 · DAY 1A city you can drive
Streets, traffic, shops and a wallet. Within a day it went online: shared city, businesses to own, PvP zones, a GPS map and instanced events from duels to tank battles.

BUILD 2 · DAY 2A coat of paint
Rounded models, proper car paint with reflections, bloom, lamps that glow at night. Plus the in-game phone: mechanic, insurance, cab and bank, and a customs shop that remembers every car you own.

BUILD 3 · DAY 2Something to do
Levels and unlocks, weather that changes the grip, nitro, and heists: walk into the vault, hold off the guards, drill, then lose the SWAT vans and a helicopter searchlight on the way out.

BUILD 4 · DAY 3–4The cats move in
The hero cat arrives fully animated. Townsfolk, patrol cops and SWAT walk the streets, studio cars replace the placeholders, and the city gets sound.
One cat, twenty moves
The hero started as a character sheet. He now walks, runs, jumps, drives, aims, brawls and falls over, and wears whatever you buy him: caps, crowns, shades, six hoodie colours.
Every move is checked from the side, the front and the back before it goes into the game. Three of the twenty:
RUNWALKIDLE
Meet the neighbours
A city needs people in it. Ten townsfolk and officers are designed; eight are already out walking, patrolling and giving chase.
The garage
Twenty-four rides are designed and sculpted in 3D, all in the same lime, violet and bone livery. Seven cars, three motorbikes and the tank are on the road; the rest roll out next.
Glass you can see through
Car windows used to be painted black. They are now real glass with a cabin behind them, so you can see who is driving. Drag to compare.
The SUV: windscreen and side windows open up.
The patrol car, same treatment.
The supercar, with its spotted livery intact.
Pick a colour
The spray shop offers eight finishes on top of the factory look, from dealer white to a colour-shifting nebula flip and mirror chrome. A respray changes the body only: stripes, spots, trim and wheels stay as they were.
The arsenal
The Pawstol, the Mew-Z, the Hairball 12, the Longtail AR and the Catapult RPG, plus Yarn Grenades and Catnip C4. Each has its own model, sound and recoil.
Guns now have magazines and reloads, a crosshair that widens as you move, headshots and camera kick. Grenades show their arc before you throw, rockets trail smoke, and you can shoot from the saddle of a bike.
A city that answers back
Cops in a squad
Officers no longer chase one by one. They work the street together as a squad.
Shared street life
Pedestrians, traffic and parked cars are the same for everyone online, so you and a friend see the same street.
Sound
The city is no longer silent, and every weapon has its own sound.
Buildings get a face
The newest work, not yet in the public build. Flat window grids are replaced by painted fronts with a real ground floor, storeys and a roofline, in four wall families. Drag to compare.
Day: shopfronts, window frames and ledges instead of a grid.
Four wall families, so neighbouring blocks stop looking like copies.
Night: windows light up one by one and shopfronts glow onto the pavement.
First landmark
Places you walk up to get their own building. The pizzeria is the first, drawn from four sides and then built for the city, with fuller street trees beside it.
From sketch to street
Nothing gets into the city without going through the same stations: concept art from every side, a 3D sculpt checked on the turntable, a skeleton, animation, and a fitting in the game itself. Here is the hero going through all five.
The same route for the rides, the hardware and the townsfolk:
Slimmed down, drawn back in
A finished studio sculpt weighs around 47 MB, far too much for a browser game with a street full of traffic. So every ride is shrunk to about 1 MB, roughly forty times smaller. Shrinking alone smears the small things, so those are put back by hand: the window glass is traced pane by pane, the lamps, grille and number plate are outlined, door and bonnet lines are drawn in one stroke at a time, the wheels are rebuilt so they can spin, and the arches are cut clean around them.
The same outlines tell the spray shop what is bodywork and what is not. That is why a respray covers the panels and stops exactly at the lamps, the glass, the trim and the tyres, in any colour you pick.
Three new motorbikes
The Hiss 600 sport bike, the Purr Hog chopper and the Mud Kitten dirt bike. Each one is fitted to the rider, so the paws sit on the bars, the feet on the pegs and the tail stays clear of the back wheel.
The tank gets camouflage
The tank was rebuilt from its concept sheet. The turret turns, every track link moves, and it comes in desert, woodland and arctic camouflage.
Tighter cars
The cars were rebuilt with hairline panel gaps, real rims and tyres, and wheel arches that hug the wheel.
Cleaner resprays
Paint now follows the body panels exactly, so a respray never bleeds onto glass, trim or lights.
Runs on anything
The game watches its own frame rate and steps the detail down by itself on slower phones and laptops.
Every gun, in the paws
Each weapon is fitted to the hero by hand. The grip sits in the palm, the support paw holds the barrel, and the launcher rests on the shoulder. You can now strafe while you aim.
Walk into Cat Motors
The car dealer is the second landmark: a glass hall you walk through, with the stock on the floor under the lights. The street outside got studio trees and lamps that throw a cone of light at night.
The fitting room
Threads & Whiskers has a fitting room: tap a hat, glasses, a hoodie or a fur skin and the cat tries it on before you pay. Next door, Claw & Order shows every piece of hardware before you buy it.
